The metal bonded diamond segments last a lot longer (about 50x more) than diamond coated holesaws because the diamonds are embedded throughout the segment and fresh ones are exposed as the bonding metal wears away. The replaceable pilot drill gets the hole in the right place in materials where you'd normally use a masonry drill.
