Great Old Hand-carved Slide Top Pencil Box 1876 drawings and wired on the backI love a pencil box, and to my eye this one is about as good as it gets. The box itself is carved from one piece of wood, pine I believe, thick walled and very satisfying with great rounded ends. The slide top fits perfectly, sliding easily and holding tightly in place, well worn at one end where it has clearly been slid in and out many many many times. Really a beautiful honest thing I think, which I would fill with my most beloved writing
