super old little whimsy made me realize I am often describing things are carved when I should be saying whittled

The sort of painting that makes me think of a luxurious, richly decorated room, old leather and wood everywhere, walls perhaps painted a deep burgundy and hung with dozens of antique dog portraits in gilded frames. But even amid many, I do think this painting, elegantly and dexterously capturing one handsome, highly prized, regal but gentle looking Spaniel (I think), would surely be my favorite! Oil on linen,
