But I quite like what looks like a musical staff on the opposite page, too, as if to suggest that there are other ways to communicate! The book is indeed titled How to Talk (Or Primary Lessons in the English Language) by W. B. Powell, published by E. H Butler and Co., Philadelphia, 1882. Lots of useful lessons inside and lots of good illustrations too,
