The 'rice-bird' Helena The plate is inscribed: 'TafBird identified by Catesby as 'Hortulanus caroliniensis', the rice bird (modern scientific name: Dolichonyx oryzivorus, the bobolink), perched on a stalk of rice, Oryza sativa.
