This gorgeous three-drawer mahogany salesman's sample chest would have been used by a furniture maker as a visual aid to help make sales

ink and pigment on heavy paper

which as I understand it were used in school as tools for teaching spelling

but the instruction as to that is not entirely clear

She came from an estate in Rockport MA; I don't know for sure where she originated but she seems a 19th c. folk carving to me, likely detached from her body or at least a bust many years ago.
