A Merit Cross for War Aid (Verdienstkreuz fr Kriegshilfe), instituted 5 December 1916, a Maltese cross paty constructed of blackened Kriegsmetall alloy, the obverse centre bears the inscription FR KRIEGS HILFSDIENST (FOR WAR AID SERVICE) with two crossed sprigs of oak leaves underneath, the reverse centre bears the crowned cipher RW for King Wilhelm II, measuring 41. 60 mm (w) x 41. 53 mm (h), on a white, red
