Constructed of magnetic sheet metal, the obverse consisting of a shield bearing a pair of crossed swords, overlaying a propeller plane and situated above a date of 1942, topped by an inscription of DEMJANSK and a pair of log pillboxes flanking a Heer style German national eagle perched on top of a wreathed mobile swastika, affixed to all four original attachment prongs (arranged in an upside down cruciform pattern) to a magnetic
