Gate of the Citadel, Plymouth, Devon Sioux Interior of the Fleet DitchGate of the Citadel, Plymouth, Devon, 1924 1926. Plymouth's Royal Citadel was built in the late 1660s. Designed by Sir Bernard de Gomme, it was constructed on the site of the earlier fort built during the time of Sir Francis Drake. The Baroque gate is entirely built from Portland stone.
