Instituted 17 December 1856 by Prince Gnther Friedrich Carl. (Issued 1870 1918). In silver, consisting of a Maltese Cross with crossed swords piercing the center, obverse centre with a gilded silver applique bearing a blue enameled medallion with a gilt lion rampant, the reverse with a centerpiece of identical construction bearing a royal monogram, on a loop for suspension from its period original ribbon,
