Known as Sir Samuel Hoare until 1944 when he was created Viscount Templewood, Hoare (1880 1959) held the positions of Secretary of State for Air (1922 1924 and 1924 1929), Secretary of State for India (1931 1935), Foreign Secretary (1935) and Ambassador to Spain (1940 1944).
