Constructed of a hand hammered silvered alloy case, the obverse bearing a hand etched palm tree, topped by dates 1942 1943 and situated above a 1939 Iron Cross, circumscribed by a circular laurel leaf wreath joined together at the bottom by a banner bearing an inscription of DEUTSCHES AFRIKAKORPS, the upper left corner bearing a makers mark, topped by a screw top lid affixed to a retractable bar to lock
