The Sphinx is located on the Giza Plateau with the three pyramids of Khufu (Cheops), Khafre (Chephren) and Menkaura (Men kaur re). The face is thought to be a likeness of the 4th Dynasty Pharaoh Khafre, who ruled Egypt during the 26th century BC.
