Japan, Empire. A Cased Order of the Rising Sun, III. Class, Commander consisting of a blue enamelled Romanian Cross with clusters of nine gilt rays in eac ringed by stylized laurel branches(Kyokujitsu Sh). Instituted on October 4th, 1875. An extremely well preserved example of this award of very fine craftsmanship, crafted of gilded silver with white enamels in the shape of an eight pointed star, with clusters of three intermediate rays, all with cleft endings, the obverse centre exhibiting a beautiful glass cabochon in red colour, the reverse presenting a double sided design, suspended by a green and violet enamel imperial symbol of
