Instituted 1808 in Rio de Janeiro, by King John VI. Charles Is issue. In silver, a ball tipped five pointed enameled white star, surrounded by a green enameled laurel wreath with a Portuguese tower on the top, obverse centre in silver gilt depicting a sword insignia encircled by an electric blue enameled border inscribed VALOR LEALDADE E MERITO (Valour, Loyalty, and Merit), the reverse
