Over the bottom third a cream glaze has been added

It is stamped "47" on its unglazed bottom

Birch Bark Antique Lidded Box with Leather Pull miniature chest which measures 4 1/2 inchesThis is a wonderful old birch bark box with a great form and patina, and wonderful scalloped edges around the bark of the exterior, which is wrapped around the box and nicely tucked in at the end. A leather pull on the top with scalloped edge matches. I believe this box would have been used to store tobacco, and I have seen very similar examples described as Native American, primarily dating to the mid to late 19th century.
